La contribución directa del sector logístico al PIB fue del 2.43 % en 2023 y se prevé que esta cifra aumente a 2.9% para el año 2034.
(M&T)-. Por primera vez en su historia, la República Dominicana cuenta con datos desagregados sobre el impacto económico del sector logístico, revelando un aporte total del 3.14% al Producto Interno Bruto (PIB) en 2023.
Estos datos surgen del estudio “Evaluación de impacto del sector logístico en la economía dominicana”, presentado recientemente por el Ministerio de Industria, Comercio y Mipymes (MICM), con la dirección técnica de Julio Lozano, respaldo metodológico de Oxford Economics y colaboración local de Datalityca.
Durante la presentación del estudio en el Ferries del Caribe, el ministro Víctor -Ito- Bisonó destacó este momento como un hito técnico significativo para el país, al permitir una evaluación más precisa del impacto del sector, diferenciándolo claramente de la categoría general de "Transporte y Almacenamiento" utilizada hasta ahora por el Banco Central.
La contribución directa del sector logístico al PIB fue del 2.43 % en 2023 y se prevé que esta cifra aumente a 2.9% para el año 2034. Incluyendo efectos indirectos, la participación alcanzaría el 3.78 % en el mismo periodo.
En términos laborales, entre 2012 y 2023, el sector registró un crecimiento notable, con un aumento del 138 % en empleos directos y del 226 % al considerar empleos indirectos. Para 2034, el sector generará aproximadamente 196,258 empleos, principalmente en transporte de carga, que aportará 93,750 puestos laborales.
Bisonó resaltó además la importancia estratégica del sector, destacando que República Dominicana posee cinco centros logísticos y 33 empresas que movilizan más de 2,000 millones de dólares anualmente, posicionando al país como una conexión natural y eficiente entre América, Europa y Asia.
La incorporación de tecnología avanzada y la implementación del programa "Despacho en 24 Horas" ha permitido mejorar notablemente la eficiencia portuaria en los puertos de Caucedo, Río Haina y Santo Domingo. Gracias a estas mejoras, el tiempo promedio de despacho se redujo en un 40.96 %, pasando de casi siete días a poco más de cuatro días.
