(M&T)-. Según el Profesor de Princeton Alan S. Blinder (The Wall Street Journal 04|27|21), con la tasa esperada de 6.4 de crecimiento para este año, ausente desde 1984, la economía de Estados Unidos ya se encuentra en medio de un “auge de Biden”.
Ante vacunaciones masivas y el consecuente desencadenamiento de la demanda reprimida por la pandemia, junto a un amplio apoyo fiscal y monetario, el Presidente Joseph Biden puede reclamar la paternidad de un auge no visto en décadas, al cumplirse 100 días de que asumió el cargo.

La gran pregunta es cuánto puede durar el auge, porque como lo reconoce el propio Profesor Blinder y muchos expertos en el horizonte aparecen varias “preocupaciones”.
Por ejemplo, a los epidemiólogos les preocupa la “batalla” entre las mutaciones del virus y las vacunas. Entre algunos economistas afiliados al Partido Demócrata, como el Profesor de Harvard Lawrence Summers, hay preocupación por el surgimiento de un brote inflacionario, el cual podría llevar al banco central a subir la tasa de interés y a una postura más estricta, poniéndole fin a las ganancias espectaculares en la bolsa de valores de la última década.
Finalmente, quienes se preocupan siempre por la deuda pública temen que financiar el gasto en infraestructura subiendo impuestos, como lo propone la Casa Blanca, puede desacelerar el crecimiento.
No obstante, el Profesor Blinder concluye que “en su totalidad, la lista de preocupaciones no parece tan preocupante,” por ende recomienda “aprovechar el auge de Biden”.
